“Price?” under a post is more than engagement. It is a customer asking whether a product could fit their budget. If your answer is only “DM us,” you add a step before giving them the information they requested.
To turn Instagram comments into customers, make the public answer useful first. Move the conversation into a private channel only when personal details or a more specific discussion belong there.
Answer what the customer actually asked
For a product with one verified price, say the price and identify the item. Add a short note if delivery is separate. When options change the total, explain the difference rather than giving a misleading lowest price.
The necklace in this post is [price]. The longer chain is [different price]. Delivery is calculated at checkout; the product link is in [your actual link location].
If the post shows several products, ask a simple identifying question: “Do you mean the silver necklace or the gold bracelet?” That is better than sending a long catalogue reply.
Use a DM invitation when it has a purpose
An order number, postcode or personal complaint does not belong in public comments. Explain why a private message helps, and let the customer choose to continue.
We can check delivery to your area. Please message us with your country or postcode so you do not have to share it publicly.
Do not say “We have sent you a DM” unless the message was actually sent through an allowed workflow. Whether a business can initiate a private reply depends on platform functionality, permissions and the connection being used.
Avoid the patterns that feel like spam
Do not paste a promotional paragraph under every comment. Do not tag unrelated people, manufacture urgency or treat a general reaction as permission for ongoing promotional messages. “Love this” and “Please send me the size guide” are different intentions.
Keep replies specific to the item and the question. If many people ask the same thing, improve the post caption, pinned answer or product page. Public information can prevent repeated friction without turning the comments into a sales script.
Let AI help with repetition, not uncertainty
An AI assistant can draft replies from maintained product information and a clear tone guide. Give it examples of short public answers, situations that require a private invitation and complaints that require human review.
Do not let automation confirm inventory from an old post. The source of truth should be the current product record. When the record is missing or ambiguous, the right response is a clarification or handoff, rather than an invented price.
Repliso's business-knowledge approach provides a useful foundation for this work. Check your connected channel's supported comment actions before planning automatic public or private replies.
Follow the conversation to a useful outcome
Once the customer moves to DMs, continue from their question. Identify the product, clarify the total and give one next step, such as a size guide or checkout link. Avoid a sequence of unrelated upsells before resolving the original request.
Review which public questions repeat and which conversations become qualified enquiries. Likes alone do not show whether the customer got help. A better measure is whether their question was answered correctly and whether they could take the next step without confusion.
Try the examples in Instagram DM reply templates, and use gentle follow-up rules when a conversation pauses.
